Eating healthy foods not only increases our overall health, it can boost our fertility! What we put into our bodies affects everything down to egg and sperm quality (men, this means you too!) Some rules to live by when picking meals are to avoid trans fats, refined carbs, processed foods and meats and refined sugar. Look for foods with fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, lean meat, whole grains and green leafy vegetables. I was recently diagnosed with endometriosis, so this narrows my food choices down even further, but allows me to fine-tune my diet to optimize our chances of conceiving and carrying a healthy pregnancy. However, many foods that are fertility friendly are not endometriosis friendly, and I’ll be sure to make that distinction when posting recipes. Some major foods that I avoid are: gluten, dairy, red meat, soy, caffeine and alcohol.
While battling infertility, sometimes it feels like we are helpless and there is nothing we can control. What you eat is one thing you actually have power over! I have been trying to take full advantage of that little control that I do have and make sure I am eating what is best for my situation and diagnosis. The dietary restrictions I listed above don’t leave a lot of options… but recently Chris and I have been trying some new recipes so I don’t always have to eat the same thing over and over again. We will be sharing some of those here!
I am not a doctor or licensed nutritionist. This is just a fun way to share some of the creative meals and recipes we have been trying as I stick to a diet that is healthy for my endometriosis diagnosis. Definitely consult your doctor or do your own research to be sure you are doing what’s best for your situation!
